KERN is a contemporary folk band from Louth, blending the driving uilleann pipes and poignant whistles of Brendan McCreanor with the dynamic fiddle playing of Barry Kieran and the dark, authoritative voice and guitar of SJ McArdle.

Returning from a triumphant set at Celtic Connections 2015, Kern entered the studio to record an album called False Deceiver, produced by Trevor Hutchinson (Lúnasa, The Waterboys, producer of Moxie).

The aim of the album is to highlight Louth as a source of both contemporary and traditional music. Some of the album is self-written, like “Leaving” and “Short Term Thing” (both co-written with Steve Wickham) and the rest has been largely sourced from Louth musicians and singers.
