This Modern Jazz Quintet from New Orleans grew out of a weekly practice session started four years ago by five of the crescent city’s prominent young sidemen. Individually the Session’s members play or have played with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Ellis Marsalis, Herlin Riley and Dr John. As a group the sound they bring is a hard swinging New Orleans brand of straight ahead jazz that is a unique combination of the music’s tradition and past, and the contemporary.
In February of 2013 The Session released its debut album, aptly titled This is Who We Are, as it is a culmination of over two years of practicing and gigging together. After an extremely well received performance at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz Festival, the band looks set to begin to turn heads around the jazz world.
